Setting the scene (finding the correct location to film)

we knew that we needed some space away from everyday life to create a sense of isolation between the characters so we decided to check out an area of woodland not too far away from where we lived. Below is the result of a couple of hours spent looking for locations to film in said woods

Pictures
Our plot dictates that the survivor find a bag of supplies so I hung my bag on a branch to get a concept of where we would need to position the camera in relation to the trees in order to get the correct framing

Our plot also has our protagonist finding a little girl hiding after he shoots her dad and must make a moral choice on whether to help her survive or to leave her to fend for herself. We found a number of alcoves for the actor to hide during filming and documented there positions by taking reference photos

There are also some semi-uprooted trees in the area that could suggest something is wrong in the world to prevent these trees from growing properly, this would be a challenging place to film as during the day shadows are cast towards the set and the camera would have to be placed so as to not cast a shadow whilst filming
